Is the Eden Council Executive or Cabinet as they now like to call themselves, playing a dangerous game with public money.
It appears they are pushing the line of no council tax rise for residents in Eden this year.
But what is not as publicly pushed is they are emptying the reserves to do it mean the new unitary will inherit an empty piggy bank and be forced to slap the area hard with a council tax rise next year.
That is if the unitary happens as council reports are now using the words “Approve that in the event that the Structural Changes Order is not made for any reason or is delayed”
This goes with other whispers of it all falling apart meaning if it does that Eden will end up penny less thanks to the incompetence of the current administration.
While zero rise in council tax may sound great just be mindful of the sting in the tail it comes with at the hands of the incompetent administration.
Who are spending the reserves by the millions like it’s going out of fashion.
Already an apparent spending of the reserves of £5million this year.
and will leave just £2millions in the pot as long as nothing urgent requires funding.
If local government reorganisation does not happen this council will be bust in months as a result of this or have to put up council tax through the roof.
Either way the actions now are not good guardianship of the public purse by the current administration.
