The chipping away of our human rights to silence those who question officials

The attempts to silence the right to freely and openly express personal opinion by and about those in elected office.

In the interests of openness and transparency.

I have today informed the monitoring officer of Eden Council that should the code of conduct complaint made against me by a county councillor be progressed by the Eden Council on the grounds that I have said a county councillor “Talks Shit” and is “Full of Bull” that were personal opinions that I freely expressed on my personal Facebook page as an individual citizen expressing my own views.

That I will consider the actions of the council on this and that of the county councillor a direct infringement under article 10 of my Human rights and the right to hold my own opinions and to express them freely without government or local authority interference.

Article 10 includes the right to express views aloud through among other things publication, books, tv, radio, works of art and the internet and social media.

It may be a trivial issue but when the tap starts to drip of infringing individual’s rights to express views and speak out is curtailed then the flood gates are opened to silence others on bigger issues.

Local authorities must never act to silence the opinions of others and I will take a stand on the attempts by a county councillor and her local group to silence memebrs of the community in this way.
