Standing up for Democracy and Freedom
Democracy is a fragile thing that we take for granted at our own peril.
“We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.”

In the early part of the 20th Century our way of life and that of the world was under threat from an evil regime bent on imposing there will on the nations of the world.
Our grandparents defended our way of life, our land and our democracy from the oppression of those who would see it taken away.
Today as in 1939 the world again faces the evil that wishes to take away our democracy and that of other nations and impose its own dictatorial regimes on the world.
Democracy is a fragile thing that we take for granted at our own peril because it can so easily be lost and with it our freedoms and rights defended with the lives of many in the Second World War and today the Brave people of Ukrainian again take up the fight to defend democracy and freedom from the evil and tyrannical Russia leader seeks to impose on them and others.
We may not be able to change world events today here in Cumbria but we can stand up defend democracy and put way of life.
Politics even at local levels has become a toxic environment.
Many have disconnected and don’t even bother to vote the basic right those in Ukrainian are fighting to defend now is a free democratic system with a vote to choose their own destiny and leaders.
Over the last few months I have experienced the full toxicity of local government and propagandist press in action even here in Eden.
It would be so much easier to just walk away and say enough to it all.
But bad things happen when good people turn a blind eye to actions that risk democracy.
Even here in Cumbria we have actions to rip apart 50 years of structure and democracy for the political gain it will bring them with the carving up of Cumbria into the two unitary councils.
In Eden since 2019 we have an administration more interested in power and control than people and place.
The focus they have of grab and control of power at all cost is akin to the actions of the Russian leadership in Ukrainian today to take power and impose their will on others and ignore the will and views of the people.
In Eden we have a so called Rainbow coalition under the rule of a libdem leadership that ignores the will of the people focused to only delivers its own vanity projects ahead of the needs of the community.
Spending thousands on getting rid of employed staff to replace them with expensive consultants.
Yet refusing to spend a few thousand to provide a simple garden waste collection bin to left behind areas of Eden.
It’s time to defend our Eden and our Cumbria at all costs against those who seek to take control and impose their own agenda on the area.
I will not turn my back and walk away as bad things happen when good people do not stand up for what is right and ours to protect.
I am tonight announcing that I will be standing in the May 2022 unitary council elections to ensure that people and place are put first and that Cumbria does not go silently into the night as some would have it do.
I am proud to be leader and a candidate for the only party committed to Putting Cumbria First and ensuring we defend our county against those who would see Cumbria cast aside in order to grab control and power what ever the cost may be to ensure there will alway be a Cumbria we are proud to call home.
