Not as advertised on the tin

When you vote for an independent and get a tin of treacle and fudge instead!

Recently someone asked me about independent candidates at election time and elected councillors. This is the definition in political terms of an independent. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party, bureaucratic association or group. You just have to look at a few councils in Cumbria to see the “independent” term is none of the above. With the various bureaucratic association or group. West Cumbria has a multitude of groups that formed alliance with conservatives to take power in Allerdale before a split and fallout. Workington town council has a group who are rather aggressive in their collective political attacks on others in collective flyers they put out. Copeland had an Independent directly elected Mayor who jumped over to become a conservative after the election. Even here in Eden we have now 2 Groups of “Independents” created after an original group fell out and split. That original group formed an alliance with the Libdems that put them in charge at Eden council and has allowed them to remain there to this day delivering the ongoing mess including Voreda House. I make no bones about been part of a party. I am proud to be part of a party that stands up for Cumbria that puts local issues and people and place first. We don’t claim to be something we are not we stand up and proudly say we are Putting Cumbria First and do not claim to be one thing and then be something else. We do what it says on the tin. You don’t get treacle and fudge with us. You get what you vote for and if you vote for treacle and fudge things get sticky fast🥴
