To ensure they remain for our children and all the Future generations.
Even before the second world war had ended, Winston Churchill had proposed in 1943 a Council of Europe to ensure that the continent of Europe would never again see the sort of injustices that allowed the Nazis to take over Germany and then impose fascism across the continent.
After the allied victory in the Second World War, the UK and 10 nations that had been involved in the war, plus Ireland, got together in 1949 to form the Council of Europe, a group tasked with upholding human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.
Note the “Council of Europe” that the UK is still part of a totally separate organisation for the “European Union” that Brexit was about.
In 1948 Winston Churchill said in an addresses to the Hague Congress as Honorary President “We aim at the eventual participation of all European peoples whose society and way of life are not in disaccord with a charter of human rights and the sincere expression of free democracy.”
One of the first tasks of the Council of Europe was to create a document that set out the rights that people should enjoy in this new Europe that we know as the European Convention of Human Rights.
The new convention of Human Rights needed to be upheld, so out of that came the European Court of Human Rights, a judicial body that would impose judgments on whether countries had breached a person's rights.
This in order to prevent the horrors that has swept across Europe after a nations government silence those who stood against the rise fascism and the evil dictatorship that allowed to take control in Germany in the 1930’s that took so many innocent lives across the continent in in human ways.
Since the inception of the European Court of Human Rights and the rights for all it upholds across Europe we have all lived and enjoyed those rights.
But today the British Government is moving to cast aside the rights and accountability of those rights.
To see a nation state and its government have the final say over how it enacts rights and takes them away from its citizens.
Just as in the 1930’s the dark clouds once again gather over Europe this time the very birthplace of the European Court of Huan rights and the rights it protects is the place that would see those rights and protection cast aside.
Maybe not by today’s government that may be acting with the best of intentions, but those intentions create a dangerous path that future governments may abuse to its own ends.
The seeds of a future brutal dictatorship that has no regards for the rights and freedoms of individuals in its nation.
The second world war was a fight between good and evil to protect the freedoms and rights we have today.
Many died shedding blood and bone so that we today many have our freedoms rights and liberty that we take for granted.
Freedoms and rights are a fragile thing that if we take for granted or let others erode and chip away we may wake to find we are no longer free or have rights and the dark clouds on the horizon have drawn a black vail over our nation and our world once again.
We must not let those rights won out of blood bone and tiers of our grandparents and great grandparents who fought and overcame the evil that engulfed Europe in the second world war.
We must defend that forged out of the fires of that hell built to defend and enshrine our rights and freedoms so that no government no state may take them away.
The UK government Bill of Rights is in this day the single biggest threat to our continued freedoms and rights forged by those that defended our nation and the nations of Europe from the evil of a nation’s government in the Second world War.
We must ensure that the blood and bones shed and split the lives lost defending our freedoms in the past are not let slip through apathy today so that a government of tomorrow may reignite the fires of hell we thought extinguished in Europe.
We must defend our rights and freedoms secured by the blood of the past to ensure they remain for our children and all the Future generations whatever the cost be today.
