The time to build resilience plans to the out the blue events is now.
A few months ago I sat in a meeting with a few owners of some large UK business.
We got onto the subject of impact events that could impact not just business and the economy but communities and society as a whole.
Of course Covid19 was and is one of those events along with Brexit.
However we spoke about other out the blue events that could have big impacts Scottish Independence was one that was recognised as having big impact on business and the economy plus society.
Wider geo political events like the threat of Russian invasion of Europe and war.
Through to cyber attacks.
Then I dropped the bombshell about failed states.
I got the “no that can’t happen here”.
By the time I had explained what a failed state is and how they can happen and current events laid against that.
You could see the blood draining from faces around the table at the realisation just how close the UK is to that tipping point right now.
They all have worked to put business continuity and resilience plans in for the things like fire, floods but how do you plan for the failure of a state and the impacts that brings 🧐
