Vicar of dibley moment for Eden council executive

The upcoming Eden council executive meeting appears to be like something out of the hit tv show the Vicar of Dibley Yes Yes Yes No.....

On Tuesday the 18th of May the Eden council executive will meet to consider 4 items on its agenda that are nominations as assets of community value. The Items range from a village Well and village hall a village pond area and a Town Hall. Each item has an extensive report with it and a recommendation by the council officer for how the executive should consider voting. Reading the recommendation despite all 4 assets meeting the required criteria for approval as assets of community value the officer has recommended the council vote Yes to the first 3 and no to the last nomination of the Penrith Town Hall. The Penrith town hall is currently home to the district council who are in the process of spending a vast amount of money on a new HQ for the council next door and at a time the council is facing local government reorganisation and consigned to the history books as a new unitary takes over is government approve proposals to make the changes to local government in Cumbria over the next year. If the changes happen than all assets of Eden council along with the other councils involved will become assets of the new unitary council in a bigger asset pot if not devolved to the communities, the assets are in or protected with community asset status then these assets could be disposed of by the new council as surplus and lost to the community potentially. We can only hope that the Eden Council executive have a moment of clarity on the 18th and opt not to re-enact a scene from the vicar of Dibley with a Yes, Yes, Yes, No moment and look at the criteria for the nominations as community assets and not the questionable recommendation of the officers to say No.
