The future of the UK now more than ever is at risk as the warning flags of a failed state slowly rise.
Failed State UK
A failed state is a government that has become incapable of providing the basic functions and responsibilities of a sovereign nation such as economic stability or it can fail if the government loses the credibility and trust of the people.
Some common signs that flag a failed state in the making include ongoing corruption, crime, poverty, crumbling infrastructure as a few examples.
Defining a “Failed State” is not a clear line that is crossed that means a state has failed.
A state is considered to have failed when no longer able to consistently protect its citizens or provide them with basic goods and services.
Some of the contributing factors to a sates failure on this level are ineffective bureaucracy, corruption, incompetence, or high crime rates.
Some of the indicators of a nation state about to fail such as political focused indicators are the states legitimacy the basic public services it delivers and the erosion of basic human rights and rule of law.
In the wider society pressures on food and supplies, internal displacement of people uneven economic development or economic decline, the loss of citizens seeking to locate in another nation state and the associated loss to the home state of that citizens contribution to the social and economic stability of the nation.
That describes a failed state or the flags that fly as a state is on the verge of becoming a failed state.
We tend to look at 3rd world nations as the places such things happen and never look to 1st world nations for the flags rising above them.
Yet 2020 through into 2021 has shown that many nations around the world not only have the flag poles in place but the flags are raising up the poles.
One state that is showing many waring signs is the UK and we could very rapidly be heading to the point of “Failed State UK”
Trust in the UK government among the citizens of the UK and international partners is at an all-time low level, we are seeing shortages if basic foods in supermarkets, the economy has contracted, supplies of stock are at levels not seen since the early 1980’s.
Our army has through cuts upon cuts seen its resources reduced to the point that could impact their ability to defend our nation due to the political cuts to funding.
There are the issues of corruption and signs of Plutocracy and Oligarchy governing our nation as contracts are awarded to friends of the circle power circle that governs the UK.
Covid19 has alongside the geopolitical shift of Brexit put the UK on a path that could see the perfect storm blow the flags of failure above the UK. Failure can come slow or fast but when it does arrive it will impact us all.
The competency of the current government is now more than ever in question by citizens of our country the whole political system is through the first past the post system that puts our government in power past its best before date.
The growing momentum of the separatist movements withing the United Kingdom further risk the Failed State of the UK but show the need and desire for meaningful change is now more than ever needed.
Change that can empower all areas of the UK and burst the bubble of the Westminster oligarchy that rules from the glass bubble of Westminster and fails to deliver for many parts of the United Kingdom.
The failures through Covid19 of the UK government are seen by some as reacting to an event no one could have predicted or planned for. The truth is that is one of the basic functions of a government to plan and have contingency for every possible scenario to be ready to enact the playbook and planned response to a situation and react to the needs to protect the citizens and the nation.
The UK government failed to enact the long made pandemic plans and instead dithered and put politics and the bottom line of the donors first before the best interests of the citizens and the nation.
This cost lives and the long-term economic stability and growth and has delivered a growing lack of trust in the government by many in the UK.
It could be said that some of the Key flags are already flying for Failed State UK and we are on a path that without radical action will see the UK becoming a failed State not in decades as some UK government reports have indicated with the decline in influence and powers of the UK government over the nation and globally and but in months.
We only need look at recent events in other parts of the world that have seen a government overthrown and a total social change from a democracy to what many class as anarchy with rights of individuals lost and a total break down of services and structure.
The UK needs radical change to stave of the failed state UK or the breakup of the UK that could lead to a failed state emerging.
The System of government in the UK must be changed to empower all citizens in every part of the UK.
We must all take responsibility for our nation its governance and its future and be part of the system that take forward the UK.
A federal UK could be the route to stave off collapse and empower the nation and its communities and citizens and keep the UK united.
Are we to late and is the fate of the UK sealed and the clock ticking down to a Failed State will be one for the history books to record?
One thing that we can do is ensure that what comes after if it does happen is better and works for all by involving all and ensuring that Plutocracy and Oligarchy have no part in the future government of the nation be that by changing the system of government we have now or in the rebuilding of a nation from the ashes of a UK Failed State.
