Town hall heated with blood money

Penrith Town Hall continues to be heated with Eden District Council paying “Russian controlled company Gazprom”

Tonight I asked the Leader of Eden council the following questions:

Question 1.

Eden Council is currently heating the town hall and mansion house paying GazProm for its gas to do so.

The horrific terror unleashed on the citizens of Ukraine by Russia need a clear message sending with immediate actions not endeavouring to do things at some point just so Eden Council can remain warm and snug in the town hall and mansion house while paying public money to GazProm as missiles fall on civilians in communities across Ukraine.

On behalf of the People of Eden will the leader and this council immediately terminate its contract with GazProm and send a clear message that Eden Stands With Ukraine and will not fund by the back door the Russian Economy and it's acts of war and terror.

The council is one of a number of local authorities that receives energy services through contracts with the Russian controlled company Gazprom. It is publicly recorded that the company supplies gas for the Council's Municipal Buildings.

The contracts were procured through a third party framework and were put in place at a time when the Council's main duty was to attain financial best value. Clearly this is no longer the case and we are looking into ways that we can switch supplier at the earliest opportunity.

The Council utterly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and gives our support to Ukrainian citizens.

Question 2.

Based on the leaders first answer can the leader please confirm that Eden District council is still using Gazprom for supply to heat the town hall and mansion house.

After a few back and forth exchanges off mic with the council chief executive the reply was given.

Erm I will provide a written answer to the question.

Not one the councils cabinet members even flinched or said a word about the councils continued contracts and payments to in the words of the leader of Eden Council “Russian controlled company Gazprom”

Yet as the night falls across Eden and Penrith Penrith Town Hall will light up in the colours of the Ukraine Flag unfortunately that is a virtue signalling false exterior as behind the lights and the sandstone walls Penrith town hall is heated with bloodmoney paid to as the council leader herself says a Russian controlled company Gazprom.

The hypocrisy of the actions of Eden Council on this issue are beyond deplorable yet the virtue signalling will continue 😔
