Freedom Day the path to lockdown

The Trojan horse of Freedom Day

As the PM announced that July 19th would be the so called “Freedom Day” for England with the lifting of the last of the Covid19 restrictions across England.

Many rejoiced at the news that would see social distancing and wearing of face masks end and all restrictions lifted.

But against the backdrop of a rapid rise in Covid19 cases driven by the Delta variant and now evident the rise in hospital admissions across the UK.

Many especially in the medical and scientific community are worried we the Freedom day will inevitably lead to much greater restrictions once again been imposed on the country and the risk of more variants developing due to the rapid rise and in cases.

variants that the vaccine may have little or no defence against and see us back to square one undoing all the gains made over the last year or more since the PM first spoke those words “you must stay at home”

The actions of government could be well intended but misguided or could be a guided plan in an attempt to not give but take away more freedom than we have today.

the old saying of absolute power corrupts absolutely springs to mind.

In having had the absolute power to restrict our every action government now faces loosing that power and again facing challenge and opposition.

The last few months has seen the UK government move to push through parliament new laws and powers to curb protests and challenges to its authority.

The lower cases of covid as the waves bottomed out have seen those who deny Covid exists or oppose masks and vaccines protest calling for lockdown to end.

Government knows that if cases remain low the Pandemic will end and the ability to retain absolute power it has held over the last 16 plus months will be gone.

The populists gifting of the token Freedom Day is unfortunately pandering a token gesture to silence a vocal few and to stoke the fire of the virus to enable the absolute power to fall back into the grasp of those who will grab it hard to forge their grip on our daily life and freedoms under the guise of battening the huge rise in Covid19 that Freedom Day will deliver on us.

like the Trojan horse that appears as a gift that hides the true fate that history records as the outcome.

The risks to public health and the economy of our country if “Freedom Day” on the 19th of July goes ahead will not be marked in the history books as the day Covid19 stopped impacting our lives it will be recorded for future generations as the day we wheeled in through the gates the Trojan horse that carried within the downfall of the country at the hands of a government that failed its primary duty to protect the best interests of the county and its people.

Had leaders of the past failed our country like this we would not have the freedoms and rights we risk now all for the sake of wearing a mask or keeping our distance from others to help protect our friends family and communities.
