275th anniversary of Battle of Culloden back on April 16, 1746 and it's links to Penrith and Clifton and the history of the British isles.
Tomorrow marks the 275th anniversary of Battle of Culloden back on April 16, 1746
Now some I am sure will think so what's that got to do with anything?
Well it has very close links with the Penrith area in particularly with Clifton just south of Penrith were on the 18th December 1745 the last battle on English soil happed at the Battle of Clifton.
After this the battle retreated into Scotland ending in 1746 with the Battle of Culloden on April 16th 1746
Had the battle of Clifton in 1745 gone a different way the battle of Culloden a year later may never have taken place and the history of the the British isles may have been a very different one to what we know today.
So the anniversary of an even that happened over 270 miles away back in Culloden on the 16th April 1746 has very close links to the local area and its history.
